Jake Paul’s unexpected reaction to the Mayweather Jr. vs. Pacquiao 2.0 fight announcement

The boxing world was sent into a frenzy when Netflix officially announced that Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao will face off again for a professional rematch on Saturday, September 19 – more than a decade after their first historic bout.

The event, now being called MayPac 2, will be streamed globally on Netflix and will mark the first professional boxing match to take place at The Sphere in Las Vegas, a state-of-the-art entertainment venue known for its immersive technology and massive LED display.

The original clash, which took place on May 2, 2015, was one of the most lucrative boxing matches in history. At the time, Mayweather earned a decisive victory via unanimous decision, leaving fans both thrilled and frustrated, as the fight didn’t produce the knockout many had hoped for.

Despite that, the fight generated massive revenue and global attention, cementing both fighters as icons of the sport. The announcement of a rematch nearly 10 years later has reignited excitement among boxing enthusiasts and casual fans alike.

Adding to the anticipation was Jake Paul’s response, which surprised many in the boxing community. Known for his polarizing presence in combat sports, Paul posted on X (formerly Twitter) a supportive message rather than a critical one.

“I love Canelo and Bud on Netflix. I love Ryan and Barrios on DAZN. I love Manny and Money back for a pro-fight. I hope ESPN gets back in soon too. It’s all good for growing boxing. That should be the focus,” he wrote.

Paul‘s comment highlights how the sport has expanded across multiple streaming platforms, offering fans more access to marquee events than ever before.

What the rematch means for boxing fans

Mayweather, who will be 49 years old at the time of the rematch, and Pacquiao, turning 48 this December, are both considered past their professional primes.

Mayweather‘s last official fight was a 2017 TKO over MMA superstar Conor McGregor, leaving him with an unblemished record of 50-0, including 27 knockouts. Pacquiao, meanwhile, holds a 62-3-8 record with 39 KOs, his only loss to Mayweather in their 2015 bout.

While neither fighter has competed regularly in recent years, both have remained active through exhibitions and occasional high-profile matchups.

Netflix’s live broadcast of MayPac 2 follows its recent ventures into major boxing events, including Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson in 2024 and Paul‘s clash with Anthony Joshua in late 2025. This strategy cements the platform as a leading venue for boxing content and a hub for fans seeking global access to top-tier fights.

Although some critics question whether two retired legends can deliver the intensity of their first fight, the excitement surrounding this rematch demonstrates boxing’s enduring appeal. With voices like Jake Paul supporting the event, it’s clear that Mayweather vs. Pacquiao 2 is more than just nostalgia-it’s a testament to the sport’s ongoing evolution.
