Jake Paul reveals the negative consequences Anthony Joshua has left him: “It’s hard to sleep”

Jake Paul’s push into elite-level boxing reached a painful crossroads at the end of 2025, and the fallout from his knockout loss to Anthony Joshua is still lingering. Weeks after suffering the first KO of his career, Paul has opened up about the physical toll of the fight, revealing that the damage to his jaw has made everyday recovery a challenge.

The bout, staged at Miami’s Kaseya Center, drew massive attention as Paul tested himself against a former heavyweight champion. While many applauded his willingness to step into the ring with a proven veteran, the aftermath has been far more serious than the YouTuber-turned-boxer initially let on.

Jake Paul details painful recovery after brutal KO

In a recent interview, Paul confirmed that the injury he sustained during the fight was significant, requiring surgical intervention. Speaking candidly about his recovery, he admitted the process has been far from easy.

“I’ve got four plates in my jaw and the healing process has been tough,” Paul said. “I’m a little bit tired, it’s hard to sleep. It’s all part of the sport and it was an amazing night. I learned a lot and we’re moving on to more fights this year.”

Paul first acknowledged the broken jaw during a post-fight conversation with Ariel Helwani, confirming what many suspected after watching the bout. Despite the injury, the 28-year-old has tried to keep his outlook positive, emphasizing the lessons learned rather than dwelling on the loss.

Before the fight, critics warned Paul that facing Joshua was a massive leap in competition. Still, his willingness to accept the challenge earned him respect across the combat sports world. However, that respect has come with renewed concern about how far Paul should push himself against elite heavyweights.

Warnings grow louder about Paul’s future opponents

Following the loss, several high-profile voices urged Paul to reconsider matching up with fighters of Joshua’s caliber again. UFC commentator Joe Rogan suggested that the risk-to-reward ratio simply isn’t worth it, especially given the physical damage Paul absorbed.

Former two-division UFC champion Daniel Cormier echoed that sentiment, offering blunt advice during a recent video.

“Francis doesn’t know, Jake,” Cormier said, referencing Francis Ngannou. “Francis doesn’t know how to control and make sure the punches don’t put your lights out. I think he needs to reconsider.”

Cormier added that his warning came from a place of respect, noting that past tensions between him and Paul are no longer relevant. The message was clear: stepping in with world-class heavyweights carries consequences that can extend well beyond one night in the ring.

For now, Paul’s immediate focus is recovery. With plates in his jaw and sleep still difficult, a return to the ring is unlikely in the near future. Most expect him to remain sidelined until mid-2026 at the earliest. Whether he chooses a safer opponent or continues chasing high-risk showdowns will define the next chapter of his controversial boxing journey.
