Jake Paul complicates Jai Opetaia’s unification plans with new cruiserweight title aspirations

Boxer and content creator Jake Paul is in the midst of preparing for his next fight against former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, however, his recent statements have generated uncertainty in the cruiserweight scene, especially for Australian Jai Opetaia, who is looking to become the unified champion of the category.

Opetaia is the current IBF champion, and has made it clear that his goals are focused solely on facing champions from other organizations, such as Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (WBO and WBA) and Badou Jack (WBC).

However, the Australian’s plans could be thwarted by the intentions of Problem Child, who recently confirmed that he is in negotiations to face both Jack and Ramirez, leaving out Opetaia for the time being.

Who will be Jake Paul’s next opponent?

When asked about the omission of a fight between Jake Paul and Opetaia, Paul said that he can’t fight everyone at the same time, although he did not rule out a possible matchup in the future. “I would definitely consider a fight with him,”Jake Paul commented.

In addition, when asked to rank the current cruiserweight champions, he stressed that “Zurdo and Jai are tied for first place,” although he remarked that for now the most advanced talks are with Ramirez and Jack, aiming for a fight with Opetaia next year.

It is worth mentioning that Paul also previously showed interest in facing figures such as Canelo Alvarez and Gervonta Davis, although these fights did not materialize. Meanwhile, his team is already in simultaneous talks with at least five or six prospects to arrange his next fight.

When is the fight between Jake Paul and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.?

Before continuing with his long-term plans, Jake Paul will have to overcome his next fight against Chavez Jr. which will take place on June 28. This is a fight with which Chavez hopes to return to be considered as one of the great contenders in the boxing world, recovering the reputation he has inherited with his surname, while Jake Paul will seek to increase the reputation he has created since his foray into boxing.

Who is the favorite to win the fight?

Jake Paul is undoubtedly in better shape, although he has been seriously criticised for his choice of opponents, especially for the fight with Mike Tyson, who had been retired for two decades, so many experts still consider him more of an influencer than a professional boxer.

However, Chavez Jr has also not been without controversy, so this is the ideal scenario. However, the biggest argument against him is the lack of rhythm in recent years, so Jake Paul looks to be the favorite in this contest.
