Jake Paul defeated Julio Cesar Chavez Jr by unanimous decision in a tedious 10-round cruiserweight bout.

Paul won 99-91, 97-93 and 98-92 on the scorecards against the native of Culiacan, Sinaloa (Mexico), who had not fought since July 20 last year, when he defeated martial arts expert Uriah Hall. At the end of the fight, and amid boos, he threw down the gauntlet for a possible fight with world champions. “I’ll fight anyone, anytime, anywhere, anywhere. I want tougher fighters. I want to be world champion. Gilberto Ramirez (WBA and WBO champion) looked very slow tonight, that would also be an easy job. I want them all… Badou Jack, Anthony Joshua, Gervonta (Davis) and Tommy (Fury), stop running.”

After the fight at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, Paul, 28, had a record of 12 wins, seven by knockout and one loss; Chavez, 39, had 54 wins, 34 by knockout, seven losses and one draw.

The junior, son of Julio Cesar Chavez, the best Mexican boxer in history, started the fight with a couple of body shots and some right hooks, attacks that were extinguished by the combinations with which Paul responded.

In the second round, Julio Cesar, who returned to the ring after overcoming addiction problems, came out with his fists tied, distrustful in his movements, which the American took advantage of to score with the left and punish with the right jab.

In the third and fourth rounds, Paul, who began his boxing career in 2018, maintained his dominance. He punished him with hooks to the body against a boxer who lacked mobility and responsiveness.

The veteran and inactive Chavez, who has only had one fight since December 2021, was exposed by the blows of the YouTuber, who took the liberty of dropping his guard at several points in the fifth round.

The sixth and seventh rounds were a reiteration, Paul scoring with the jab, Chavez as if he had forgotten how to throw punches.

After an inconsequential eighth round, in the ninth, the junior finally dared; he connected a left to the face, but nothing more.

The arrival of the final round was a relief for boxing history. A YouTuber who, as happened last December, strolled around the ring against Mike Tyson, now concluded a function without intensity in which social media interactions are above the quality of the boxers
