Mexican fighter Jaime Munguia managed to get the monkey off his back and defeated Frenchman Bruno Surace by unanimous decision in their rematch, after being knocked out in Tijuana months ago. Although the Tijuana native could not pay Surace back in the same way and could not send him to the canvas, he looked better throughout the fight.

In the end, the fight was decided by the judges’ scorecards, who saw the Mexican’s superiority and awarded him the victory that gives him calm and new life in his career after two consecutive defeats.

Munguia dominated Surace

The first rounds were reconnaissance for the Mexican and the Frenchman, with Munguia looking very cautious keeping his distance from Surace, taking into account the right hand that cost him the defeat in Tijuana and learning from his mistake.

Surace with good footwork and feints got rid of Munguia’s attempts, who with combinations sought to connect fully on the humanity of his opponent and taking the initiative, knowing that he is the one forced to win.

By the fifth round, Munguia began to wear down the Frenchman’s defense, whom he began to ‘chase’ around the ring and put against the ropes, with Surace trying to get away from the Tijuana native’s combinations, although Surace managed to even things up and warned with some swings in the seventh round.

Munguia stops Surace and takes the victory

The ninth round was the best for Munguia, cornering Surace against the ropes and landing several combinations on the Frenchman’s body, who began to look quite tired after two rounds in which the European seemed to even the fight.

Munguia tried his best to pay Surace back in kind and knock him out in the last rounds, but both the Mexican and the Frenchman were exhausted and looked exhausted to finish their second fight

The cards gave Munguia the victory with scores of 116-112, 117-111, 117-111 by unanimous decision for the native of Tijuana.
