Jadeveon Clowney arrested ahead of joining Dallas Cowboys, raising concerns for team

Jadeveon Clowney arrived at the Dallas Cowboys carrying sky-high expectations, with many touting him as the next Micah Parsons after his stint with the Carolina Panthers. However, instead of making headlines on the field, Clowney has already sparked controversy off it, raising concerns about his impact with the team.

Since Micah Parsons’ departure, the Dallas Cowboys have been navigating unfamiliar territory on their defensive line, with Brian Schottenheimer’s scheme clearly missing a cornerstone player. To address that gap, the storied franchise has turned to Jadeveon Clowney, signing the former Carolina Panthers defensive end in hopes of strengthening their defense.

However, reports indicate that the Cowboys’ new key signing has been involved in a misdemeanor case that led to his arrest, casting doubt on the positive impact he can bring to Jerry Jones’ team.

Jadeveon Clowney’s misdemeanor case raises concerns for the Cowboys

It’s hardly the ideal way to begin a new chapter with the Cowboys, as reports confirm that before joining the team, Jadeveon Clowney was arrested by police in his hometown of Rock Hill, South Carolina.

The incident occurred last Friday, when Clowney faced misdemeanor charges for trespassing and failure to identify. According to police, the Cowboys defender attempted to park his car in a closed parking lot, was warned it was not permitted, and ultimately ended up under arrest after failing to comply.

Nevertheless, the case does not appear to have affected Clowney’s standing within the Cowboys, as the defensive end has been spotted training without issues while preparing for the team’s next challenge against the Chicago Bears this Sunday at Soldier Field.

What Jadeveon Clowney can bring to the Dallas Cowboys

At 32 years old, Jadeveon Clowney still has plenty to offer on the field. Selected first overall in the 2014 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans, the veteran pass rusher has suited up for seven NFL franchises throughout his career. Last season, he appeared in 14 games with the Carolina Panthers after signing a two-year, $20 million deal, but was released by the team in May.

Jadeveon Clowney is coming off a season with the Carolina Panthers where he recorded 46 tackles and 5.5 sacks. After starting his career with five solid years in Houston, the former No. 1 pick has since made stops with the Seahawks, Titans, Browns, Ravens, and Panthers, each for just one season. Now, Clowney joins the Dallas Cowboys on a one-year deal worth $3.5 million, with incentives that could push it to $6 million.

The Dallas Cowboys have opened the season 1-1, bouncing back from a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles with a thrilling win over the New York Giants. However, their biggest concern remains on defense, where they are allowing 30.5 points and 422 yards per game, numbers they’ll be eager to improve ahead of their upcoming matchup with the Jets.
