Is Jake Paul already looking ahead amid JC Chavez Jr. fight? His next encounter might come sooner than he thinks

Jake Paul is set to take the ring once again on June 28 at Honda Center in Anaheim, facing former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. But while his immediate focus is on securing another win, Paul is already thinking ahead-setting his sights on a potential showdown with current WBC cruiserweight champion Badou Jack.

Paul is coming off a unanimous decision victory over boxing legend Mike Tyson last November, further solidifying his presence in the sport. Since then, he has called out some of boxing’s biggest names, including Canelo Alvarez and Gervonta Davis, but neither matchup materialized. With Jack holding the cruiserweight title, Paul sees an opportunity to finally get his shot at a legitimate championship.

In a recent interview with Fight Hub TV, Paul revealed that discussions for a fight against Jack are already underway. “I’m super interested. I had Nakisa [Bidarian] contact his team behind the scenes, so those discussions are happening,” Paul said. When asked if he believed he could beat Jack, the YouTuber-turned-boxer responded confidently: “For sure.”

Looking ahead but not distracted

Jack, now 41, recently secured a majority decision win over Norair Mikaeljan and is currently on a seven-fight win streak. Despite Jack’s experience, Paul’s strength and conditioning coach, Larry Wade, believes Paul has the advantage, citing his work with both fighters in the past. Jack himself remains open to the possibility of the bout, calling it an “easy fight” and a “money fight”.

For now, Paul’s focus remains on Chavez Jr., a fight that could earn him a WBC ranking and bring him closer to his goal of becoming a world champion. He is also reportedly considering a matchup against Gilberto Ramirez, signaling his continued push toward legitimacy in the sport.

Whether Paul can truly compete against established champions like Jack remains an open question. Critics argue that his fights often involve older opponents, raising concerns about how he would fare against a top-tier boxer in his prime. But with Paul continuing to elevate his competition, boxing fans will be watching closely to see if he can take the next big step in his career.
