Is Doncic better than Kobe and Shaq? Former Lakers star puts Luka above some team legends

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal, and many more-few teams have amassed so many legends in their history. However, according to James Worthy, there is currently someone who could be considered above almost all of them: Luka Doncic.

With nearly 80 years of history and 18 championships in their trophy case, the Lakers have had their fair share of legendary, clutch players who have defined their generations.

Each of them has had a defining characteristic that has set them apart from the rest:

  • Kareem Abdul-Jabbar: His finesse and skill set made the sky hook unstoppable.
  • Magic Johnson: His court vision made him one of the greatest point guards of all time.
  • Kobe Bryant: One of the best mid-range tacticians.
  • Shaquille O’Neal: His power and dominance in the paint.
  • LeBron James: His basketball IQ and his adaptability to anticipate defensive schemes.

However, according to Worthy, Doncic stands out above all of them for one reason.

Is Luka better than Kobe and Shaq?

Worthy played on the so-called Showtime Lakers, the team led by Magic and Kareem that won five championships in the 80s, and he himself is a Lakers legend.

In a recent interview with Spectrum SportsNet, Worthy recalled: “Historically, the Lakers have had clutch players. Kareem with the sky hook. Magic with his play. Kobe, Shaq.”

However, Big Games James asserted that none of them have been like Doncic:

I don’t think we ever had one as consistent and dominant as Luka Doncic.

Worthy praised “The way he controls the game with the ball in his hand, and he’s a shot maker. He’s a shot maker from anywhere. He’s really good at drawing fouls too.”

Luka has become a force of nature

One of the reasons Worthy considered Doncic above legends like Kobe and Shaq is

the impressive streak he’s currently on.

This week, the Slovenian star racked up 100 points in 24 hours, scoring 40 points in the 124-116 victory over the Houston Rockets, and a jaw-dropping 60 points in the 134-126 win against the Miami Heat.

While Worthy’s words are sure to cause a stir among fans and analysts in the days to come, there is no doubt that what Doncic is doing is well worth the controversy.
