Is ‘Canelo’ Alvarez’s reign coming to an end? William Scull vows to defeat the Mexican

At 34 years of age, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is still the WBA, WBC, WBO, WBO, IBF Super Middleweight King where to date there has not been a boxer to snatch the belt he has held for more than five years. However, his next opponent will come to the ring with a lot of silence and respect, which can be very powerful weapons to beat the Mexican.

The “Fatal Fury” card, which will take place on Saturday, May 3 in Saudi Arabia, will feature Canelo Alvarez as the main fighter against Cuban William Scull. In recent statements, the challenger in turn is one of the few boxers with the ability to show confidence and has assured that he will defeat the Mexican to put an end to the super middleweight reign he has held since 2020.

In an interview with the New York Journal, Scull mentioned that to say he will knock Canelo out is to throw words into the air, as it is a very complicated situation, although it is not impossible. However, he has assured that the victory over the Mexican is very latent thanks to the fact that his strategy does not go through the fast track or a hard punch, but simply a victory that he will manage round by round.

The fight that William Scull will win over Canelo Alvarez

Asked directly by the reporter “Do you feel capable of knocking out ‘Canelo’ Alvarez?“, the Cuban answered: “Yes, I feel confident that we will win and we will give a good performance. The knockout comes out, you don’t look for a knockout”, answered the 32-year-old boxer, where his 1.81 meters height could be a crucial element to keep distance from Canelo Alvarez and deliver effective punches with his long reach.

For William Scull, Saul Alvarez is one of the most important figures in world boxing today. He sees him as a future legend of the sport and, together with the discipline he has shown, shows him a lot of respect. But he says that all things being equal, he sees no reason to fear him: “Canelo has two hands, he doesn’t have three or four. If he had three or four, that’s when you have to be scared. He is a boxer who has a name, a legend who must be respected, but he has nothing else,” he said.

William Scull’s keys to defeat Canelo Alvarez

The Cuban uses statistics to know his opponents where he has indicated that the Mexican has never come out on the fast track and that is why he will take the fight round after round. The key will go through mental concentration and physical endurance. “Cuban boxers are characterized by a great response and I am a boxer who handles the three distances. I handle the long, the short and the medium. It will be very important to dominate him to win this fight,” said William Scull.

William Scull will come into this bout undefeated in 23 fights, 9 of which he has won by KO. However, Saul Alvarez triples his experience with credentials of 62 victories (39 by KO), two draws and only two defeats. It will be the second time that the Mexican will face a Cuban fighter, after remembering that in 2014 he faced Erislandy Lara where he won by split decision.
