The organization of the 1000 category tournament at Indian Wells announced last week that Venus Williams was going to play in the tournament with an invitation from the organization. The veteran American tennis player had not played since the 2024 Miami Open
The surprise was that Venus herself denied her presence in the Coachella Valley: “I’m not going to play. I found out that I had been granted a wild card when I read it in the press. I would have loved to be there, but I have other commitments.”
In the face of ridicule, the tournament later issued a statement announcing that Venus had not accepted the invitation
