Lamar Hunt: The origin of the great Kansas City dynasty.
Lamar Hunt was the founder of the Chiefs and a key figure in the creation of the American Football League (AFL) in 1960. Hunt was one of the key architects of the merger of the AFL with the NFL in 1970, which is known as the National Football League (NFL).
Lamar Hunt is also credited with coining the name “Super Bowl” for the duel between the AFL and NFL champions, today AFC and NFC.
The Chiefs were originally known as the Dallas Texans, but in 1963 the franchise moved to Kansas City and adopted the name Chiefs.
Clark Hunt: The heir to Lamar Hunt’s glories
In 2006, Lamar Hunt passed away, but his legacy fell on the shoulders of his scion, Clark Hunt, who has taken the Chiefs to new heights, reaching four Super Bowls in the last five years.
Clark Hunt has been the CEO and chairman of the Chiefs since 2006, following the death of his father, and under his leadership, Kansas City has once again become an elite team, winning the Super Bowls in 2020, 2023 and 2024 with Patrick Mahomes as the star.
Hunt is also one of the leading figures on the NFL’s finance committee.
The Hunt family, key to the Kansas City Chiefs’ success
