How serious is Juan Soto’s injury after being hit by a pitch? This is what the Mets announce

New York Mets star outfielder Juan Soto suffered a blow to his left foot during his at-bat in the fourth inning against the San Diego Padres, which made not only the fans but also the managers and teammates tremble, as Soto immediately fell to the ground with a visible gesture of pain, after hitting a foul directly on his foot.

Although unlikely, one of the possible scenarios was a fracture in the foot, which would be bad news for the New York team. However, X-rays revealed that there was no broken bone and the final diagnosis was a foot contusion

Manager Carlos Mendoza confirmed that the player is “better, but still sore” and that his status will be evaluated day by day.

This is undoubtedly good news, as everything points to the fact that they will have Soto back in a few days, so he will stay away from the injured list:

Speaking to Juan, I think we’ve dodged a bullet here

The plan is for Soto to return to the starting lineup on Friday, when the Mets face the San Francisco Giants after Thursday’s day off.

Meanwhile, the team hopes the outfielder can take some swings in the cages to determine if he will be available off the bench.

In Wednesday’s game against the Padres, Jeff McNeil played right field as the Mets tried to avoid being swept in the series and stay strong in the battle for the top of the National League East.

A sensitive loss at a key moment

The possible absence of Soto, albeit brief, is a blow for a team that has clear aspirations of reaching the World Series, as his presence in the lineup is key both for his offensive production and his leadership on the field.

The coaching staff remains optimistic, but cautious, about the development of the next few days. It will all depend on how the pain evolves and how the foot responds during practice leading up to Friday’s game. For now, the Mets and their fans can breathe a sigh of relief that the injury is not as serious as it first appeared.
