“He’s envious”: Mauricio Sulaiman lashes out at Juan Manuel Marquez after his criticism of Canelo Alvarez

Juan Manuel Marquez has become one of Saul Alvarez’s biggest critics, but his words also have consequences

‘Dinamita’ did not hold anything back in an interview for ProBox TV Espanol and accused Canelo of breaking “sporting justice”

“When a fighter decides who he fights, sporting justice is broken. That affects those who have worked to earn their chance in the ring. There are many boxers who are waiting for a legitimate chance and do not get it because Canelo chooses his opponents,” said Marquez.

Sulaiman comes to Canelo’s rescue

WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman was quick to respond to the new criticism from ‘El Dinamita’ and gave him a blunt response: “Don’t be so envious, Juan Manuel. You talk as if you don’t see Canelo’s career. The facts speak for themselves: he has been a world champion for 14 years, he has beaten 21 champions and he has always respected the rules. When he didn’t, like with Golovkin, he was stripped of the title. There is no favoritism. There are facts”.

Marquez was quick to respond to Sulaiman’s comment, assuring that he has no envy of Canelo.

“It’s not envy, it’s defending boxing. I respect Canelo as a boxer, I know what he has achieved, but I criticize the way certain privileges are handled. Boxing has to be fair for everyone, not just for the stars,” replied ‘El Dinamita’.
