Acting the wrong way will never bring good rewards. This reminder comes in reference to the fraud committed against the league by several former NBA players. Among them was ex-player Glen “Big Baby” Davis, who once celebrated a championship with the Boston Celtics in 2008.

However, in 2021, alongside other former league players, it was discovered that they were involved in a scheme that harmed the NBA through the league’s health insurance program. According to investigators, they submitted invoices for medical and dental appointments that were never actually performed.

The objective was to defraud the medical benefits plan granted by the league to its players. The fraudulent activity took place between 2017 and 2021. Now, after spending 40 months behind bars, the former player shared a video on social media in which he expressed his satisfaction at recovering his freedom and leaving that difficult chapter of his life behind.

After leaving behind the bars that confined him for more than three years, Davis chose to celebrate the moment in the only way that felt natural: with visible joy and enthusiasm. In the video he shared, the former NBA forward can be seen dancing with excitement, clearly overwhelmed by the feeling of returning to life outside prison.

But I’m back, baby!

This was the phrase that accompanied the publication shared by the former player, who appeared truly emotional about what he was experiencing in that moment and eager to enjoy the occasion alongside his loved ones.

In 2024, the former Celtics player – now 40 years old and remembered as part of the championship team – was sentenced by a federal judge. Authorities found him guilty of participating in the scheme that defrauded the NBA’s health benefits plan through false medical claims totaling $3.9 million.

During the legal process, Davis acknowledged that his life had lost direction after the 2014-15 basketball season ended.

When I lost basketball, I lost myself.”…”I ask you, your honor, to help me get back to who I am.

Davis told Judge Valerie E. Caproni. Meanwhile, former NBA player Andre Iguodala also showed his support for Davis through a letter addressed to the court.

On behalf of all of our NBPA members past and present, I respectfully ask that you consider Glen’s accomplishments and the positive impact he has had on those around him when determining his sentence.”… “I recognize the seriousness of this legal matter and appreciate the thoroughness of the judicial process, and ask for leniency with these factors in mind.

Now that he has regained his freedom, Davis will likely try to rebuild his life and return to a more positive path. The former champion appears determined to take advantage of this second opportunity, focusing on family, personal growth, and leaving the mistakes of the past behind as he begins a new chapter.
