Giancarlo Stanton set to return to Yankees lineup after missing 70 games

Giancarlo Stanton is poised to make his highly anticipated return to the New York Yankees‘ lineup on Monday night against the Los Angeles Angels.

The 35-year-old designated hitter has been sidelined for the first 70 games of the 2025 season due to tendinitis in both elbows, an issue that resurfaced during spring training.

His absence has been felt in the Yankees‘ lineup, which has recently struggled offensively, scoring only four runs over three games in a sweep by the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.

Stanton‘s journey back to the field has been a lengthy one. After receiving platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections in both elbows, he began his rehabilitation with the Double-A Somerset Patriots.

In his rehab stint, Stanton appeared in several games, showcasing his readiness for a return to the major leagues. Manager Aaron Boone expressed optimism about Stanton‘s progress, stating, “He’s been doing well and definitely good to have him back.”

The Yankees have been without Stanton‘s powerful bat for over two months. Last season, he played in 114 games, hitting 27 home runs and adding seven more in the postseason, helping the Yankees reach the World Series. His return is expected to provide a significant boost to the team’s offense.

Impact on the Yankees’ lhineup

Stanton‘s presence in the lineup is anticipated to have a positive effect on the Yankees‘ offensive production.

Before his injury, the team relied heavily on Aaron Judge and Juan Soto for run production. With Stanton back, the lineup gains additional depth and power, potentially alleviating some of the pressure on Judge and Soto.

Manager Aaron Boone emphasized the importance of Stanton‘s return, noting, “What he means to our lineup and how well he’s been swinging the bat to start the year.”

The Yankees‘ offense has struggled in recent games, and Stanton‘s return is seen as a crucial factor in revitalizing the team’s performance. His ability to hit for power and drive in runs will be vital as the Yankees aim to improve their standing in the American League East.

As Stanton prepares to rejoin the Yankees‘ lineup, the team is hopeful that his return will spark an offensive resurgence.

The upcoming series against the Los Angeles Angels presents an opportunity for the Yankees to gain momentum and improve their performance. With Stanton back in the fold, the Yankees look to strengthen their lineup and make a push for the postseason.
