The Frontwave Arena in Oceanside, California, will host a highly anticipated women’s boxing bout on Saturday, when the undisputed world champion at 112 pounds, and the youngest monarch in the world, Gabriela ‘Sweet Poison’ Fundora, will defend her WBA, WBO, WBC, IBF and Ring magazine titles against IBF No. 1 challenger Marilyn ‘La Mexicana’ Badillo.
This is the main fight of the event organized by Golden Boy Promotions and Sampson Boxing, scheduled for 10 rounds. Fundora, a native of Coachella Valley, California, comes into this fight with an undefeated record of 15-0, with seven knockouts, while Badillo, from Cuautitlan, Mexico, has a record of 19-0-1, with three knockouts.
“In my last fight, I made history as the youngest undisputed champion in the world,” said Gabriela Fundora at the final pre-fight press conference.
“I’m excited to make history again, this time defending my undisputed status against the hungry Badillo,” she added. “This is my first main event and I’m looking forward to showing the world all the effort that the Fundora team puts in to be the best.”
For her part, the challenger warned: “I worked hard to earn my place and compete for this undisputed championship. I’m excited to make my US debut and make a splash in women’s boxing.“
In the co-main event, undefeated No. 2 ranked Charles ‘Bad News’ Conwell (21-0, 16 KOs) will face No. 4 ranked former world champion Jorge ‘Chino’ Garcia Perez (32-4, 26 KOs) of Sinaloa, Mexico, in a 12-round super welterweight bout
