Michael Carter-Williams, a former NBA player who was named Rookie of the Year in 2014, is becoming a boxer at the age of 33 and already has his first fight scheduled.

The former Philadelphia 76ers, Milwaukee Bucks, Chicago Bulls, Charlotte Hornets, Houston Rockets and Orlando Magic player will face Sam Khativ on May 29 in New York, in a three-round heavyweight bout at the Leman Ballroom.

“Michael Carter-William is very proud, athletic and I think he can be successful as an amateur boxer. If he goes professional, it’s another story

Ronson Frank

Michael Carter-Williams, who is 1.96m tall, will put on the gloves for the ‘Broad Street Brawl’ in order to raise funds for Bigvision Community, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting young adults recovering from substance abuse.

Boxing promoter Ronson Frank told ESPN that if Michael Carter-Williams puts on a good show in this fight, he could earn future fights.

“Michael Carter-William is very proud, athletic and I think he can be successful as an amateur boxer. If he turns professional, that’s another story. You have to be a world-class athlete to succeed in the NBA, and if he has that same dedication to boxing, along with his natural athletic ability, he has the potential to succeed,” said Frank.

Michael Carter-Williams’ life after being NBA Rookie of the Year: “I’m at peace with my career”

Michael Carter-Williams, who was the 11th overall pick in the 2013 Draft, was the NBA’s Rookie of the Year after averaging 16.7 points, 6.3 assists and 6.2 rebounds in his first season with the Sixers.

He retired from the NBA with averages of 10.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists during his nearly decade-long career in the league.

His last team was the Mexico City Capitanes of the G League and he officially hung up his boots in October 2024.

“I’m at peace with my career. I’ve accomplished so much and lived a life bigger than I ever dreamed of. I’ve met amazing people and I’m able to contribute to the community, which I’m proud of. I’m grateful for everything. I have no regrets. I really don’t,” Michael Carter-Williams told ‘The Athletic’.

Michael Carter-Williams currently works as a college basketball television analyst.
