The Los Angeles Dodgers seem to have started a new dynasty in MLB. The back-to-back World Series championships have not satisfied them and now they seem determined to go for a third championship in a row. To do so, they have put together one of the best rosters for 2026. In a paid team of talent, Freddie Freeman is one of its pillars on and off the diamond. At 36 years of age, the first baseman not only maintains elite performance, but also begins to profile more clearly the closing of a career that for many is already considered historic.

Freddie Freeman and his place with the Dodgers

Since signing with the Dodgers in 2022 on a six-year, $162 million contract, Freeman has become one of the most beloved players among Los Angeles fans. His departure from the Atlanta Braves was emotional and much talked about, but the change of uniform ended up being a total success both sportingly and personally.

With the Dodgers, Freeman has added two more World Series titles, cementing a legacy that already placed him among the best players of his generation. His consistency, leadership and professionalism have made him indispensable in a clubhouse full of figures.

When does Freddie Freeman plan to retire?

During the Dodgers Fest, Freeman was asked directly about his future by broadcasters Joe Davis and Stephen Nelson. His response was straightforward:

I have two years left on my contract and I think 20 years would be great. So I guess that would be four more years.

With these words, the veteran hinted that his goal is to reach 20 seasons in MLB, which would lead him to play until at least the 2029 campaign.

Freddy Freeman’s numbers

The numbers from the 2025 season fully support his stance. In 147 games, Freeman posted a .295 batting average, .869 OPS, along with 24 home runs and 90 RBIs. Solid, consistent production that was key to the Los Angeles team’s success.

Freeman has achieved a Hall of Fame-worthy career, but he is still hungry for more success and on a team like the one the Dodgers have put together, he has a great chance to add to his resume before hanging up his cleats and saying goodbye to Major League Baseball
