Free agency brought Freddie Freeman to Los Angeles after he won the World Series in 2021, signing a six-year, $162 million deal that now looks like one of the best contracts in franchise history.
An achievable goal that depends on the Dodgers
Freddie Freeman has two years left on his contract with the Dodgers, but his goal is to play four more seasons, as he made clear in an interview with David Vassegh of Dodger Talk.
“Four is just a number that’s floated,” Freeman explained during his first time speaking with reporters at Camelback Ranch. “Is it less? Is it more? I don’t know. But that’s kind of just where I’m at. I feel good right now.
“That was just floated because that would be an even 20 years, I’ll be 40. I got a family that I would like to go home to. But I do love this game. I love playing it. But for me, if I can do four, that’ll be 20 years. I think that’s enough.”
The goal is set at 20 MLB seasons, and he’s clear about completing them with the Los Angeles Dodgers because, as he himself mentions, he’s from Southern California.
For this to happen, it ultimately depends on the Dodgers, although Freeman has no plans to pressure the organization for an extension or a new deal when he becomes a free agent after the 2027 season. We’ll see if he’s able to achieve his goal-because the reality is that he has certainly earned that opportunity.
