The world of mixed martial arts is on edge at the return of one of its most imposing figures. Francis Ngannou, the feared former UFC heavyweight champion, is set to return to action on May 16 in the debut card of Most Valuable Promotions (MVP). However, while his focus should be on his opponent, Brazilian Philipe Lins, the Cameroonian has another score to settle: Jake Paul.

Francis Ngannou does not forget Jake Paul

Despite Ngannou now working professionally with Paul’s promoter, the personal tension between the two has escalated. In a recent interview with TMZ Sports, Ngannou was blunt about his feelings towards the former YouTuber.

I just feel like I need to give him a few slaps. That’s what I feel like, you know, like to put him in his place with a slap

While Ngannou claims he can and wants to teach Paul a lesson, he has also been clear in recognizing that the boxer has improved his image in the world of boxing and fighting, so there is a degree of respect.

Francis Ngannou and his respect for Jake Paul

The relationship between the two is complex, and Ngannou admitted that his perception of the YouTuber has evolved, now recognising him as a serious competitor in the boxing world. “When you talk about Jake Paul, you already talk about him as a boxer,” he said, giving him credit for changing the narrative of his career.

However, Paul’s recent claims that the Cameroonian is “ducking” him have deeply upset the African giant. Ngannou recalled that last year he turned down the chance to face him because he did not consider him a serious proposition, which led Jake to fight Anthony Joshua.

Now, Ngannou is ready to welcome Paul and give him the slaps he promises, but for the moment it seems unlikely to happen.
