ANew York Yankees legend has surprised many by announcing that he not only wants to enter politics, but is also ready to “help” President Donald Trump during his new term in the White House.

This is Mark Teixeira, the legendary baseball player who announced that he is now seeking a place in Congress representing the state of Texas

Mark Teixeira is a former professional baseball player who played 14 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Texas Rangers, Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Angels and New York Yankees. The former player was part of the team between 2009 and 2016, a period in which he was a three-time All-Star, won five Gold Gloves and contributed to the 2009 World Series title, breaking a nearly decade-long championship drought for the franchise, earning him the title of legend in the Bronx. However, since his retirement in 2016, Teixeira has taken a different path: politics.

Recently, the 45-year-old former athlete announced that he wants to “help” President Donald Trump, who returned to the White House after his victory in 2025.

Teixeira’s candidacy for Congress in Texas

Teixeira officially confirmed that he will run for a seat in Texas’ 21st District, seeking to fill the position left by Congressman Chip Roy, who is seeking to become the state’s next attorney general.

In his launch message, Teixeira left no doubt about his stance:

I am a conservative politician and I am running for Congress to fight for America First. President Trump needs strong allies to deliver for our great nation.

Teixeira

The former Yankee presents himself with a clear vision: to align himself with President Trump’s agenda and defend what he considers fundamental values for Texas and the United States.

In his remarks, Teixeira insisted that his motivation is to contribute to the strengthening of his district and support the conservative agenda:

I am running to ensure that District 21 remains prosperous and free for future generations

“It takes teamwork to win, and I’m ready to help defend President Trump’s America First agenda, Texas families and individual freedom,” said the former Yankee.

Texas’ 21st District is known for its strong conservative identity, so Teixeira’s message aligns perfectly with the work of current Representative Chip Roy. That is why for many analysts, Teixeira’s candidacy could have an immediate impact on the broad conservative sector in the state and especially among voters who value his career in Major League Baseball.
