Former Mets player explodes over team’s dismantling with departures of Pete Alonso and Edwin Diaz

In addition to the anger of the fans, there is also the annoyance of former Mets players over the departures of Pete Alonso, Edwin Diaz and Brandon Nimmo. The criticism of the franchise is for dismantling the team without signings to replace those who leave and without putting together a roster to support Juan Soto, the most expensive player for the organization in recent years. The news of Alonso’s trade to the Orioles was the straw that broke the camel’s back for Todd Frazier, the former New York third baseman in 2018 and 2019. ‘The Toddfather’ pointed directly at the management for lacking vision in putting together a roster. In the space of Foul Territory TV, Frazier said it is incomprehensible to him that the Mets have let Alonso, Diaz and Nimmo go after signing an exorbitant $765 million contract with Juan Soto without balancing that investment with a plan B to support Soto and to find replacements for the players who have left.

There aren’t many players out there who have the ability to do what Pete Alonso can do in a baseball game. Edwin Diaz is one of the best closers we’ve seen in our generation. Brandon Nimmo is as solid as can be.

Frazier criticized the Mets’ handling of the negotiations to retain three of their most beloved and consistent pillars. He questioned the organization’s future direction and its ability to attract and retain talent in the market. He questioned whether the offers made to Alonso, Diaz and Nimmo were so low when it comes to key pieces on the roster.

Pete Alonso, Edwin Diaz and Brandon Nimmo, nostalgia for Mets fans

Alonso left as a free agent after signing with the Baltimore Orioles. Diaz accepted a contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Nimmo was traded to the Texas Rangers. Their departures have hit the hearts of fans hard, as they esteem and love those three players.

Fans on social media believe that they wore the team’s badge with pride. They saw in their figures elements with which they could compete in the 2026 season, because there were hopes that the franchise would retain them and sign two other players to reinforce their lines, but this was not the case.

Unless star signings are announced in New York in the coming days, the fans say they are disillusioned and have little hope for the next campaign. Alonso, Diaz and Nimmo have yet to play for their respective new teams, but they are already missed. They say that you never know what you have until it’s gone.
