For Cam Newton, Jerry Jones was right not to honor Micah Parsons upon his return to Dallas

After months of drama surrounding contract negotiations between defensive standout Micah Parsons and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, the saga ultimately ended with Parsons being traded to the Green Bay Packers. In return, Dallas received multiple draft picks, closing the chapter on one of the franchise’s most dominant defensive players in recent memory.

Now, Parsons is set to return to AT&T Stadium for a highly anticipated Week 4 matchup between the Packers and Cowboys. Given his impact on the field during his time in Dallas, some speculated there might be a tribute to honor his contributions. However, Jones made it clear that no such gesture would take place, a decision that sparked widespread debate among fans and analysts.

Cam Newton supports Jerry Jones’ stance

Former NFL quarterback Cam Newton voiced his full support for Jones’ decision, arguing that while it may not be the popular choice, it is ultimately the correct one for the organization. Speaking on his 4th&1 podcast, Newton emphasized the importance of keeping the focus on the game rather than creating unnecessary distractions.

He ain’t wrong. He needs to minimize distractions.

Newton said.

Why should (he) go down to the media team and say, ‘Hey man, y’all need to make a Micah Parsons tribute video?’ What? That don’t even sound right. Now, granted, if he won a Super Bowl, if he was the Super Bowl MVP, if he was the MVP of the league, but, bruh, let’s put things into perspective.

Jerry Jones (is) trying to say, ‘Hold on, hold on, bro. We still ain’t good now.’ We’re about to make your life a living hell. So I don’t want you to get mixed reviews that it’s all peaches and cream.”
Parsons had been the heart and soul of the Cowboys’ defense, and his departure has left a noticeable void on that side of the ball. While his performance was never in question, his combative approach during contract negotiations reportedly strained his relationship with the organization.

As Parsons makes his return, reactions among fans are expected to be divided. Some will boo him for leaving under contentious circumstances, while others will cheer him for the unforgettable seasons he delivered in Dallas. His dominance on the field brought excitement and hope to the franchise, even if the ending was less than ideal.

From Jones’ perspective, Newton believes the message is clear: “Everybody keep saying that I should not have dealt you away and they saying that ol’ Jerry Jones is losing with the trade. So why would we do that?”

For Parsons, the absence of a tribute video isn’t a source of resentment.

A lot of things I can consider disrespectful throughout this process, but I wouldn’t say the tribute is one of them.

He said.

Heading into the matchup, the Packers are seen as the clear favorite. With quarterback Jordan Love leading an efficient offense, Dallas’ inconsistent attack may struggle to keep pace, adding even more intrigue to Parsons’ dramatic homecoming.
