Floyd Mayweather’s uncle sends warning to Canelo Alvarez and blames him for strange fight

Canelo Alvarez did not come out well from the disappointing spectacle offered in his unanimous decision victory over William Scull, to once again be the undisputed super middleweight champion, as more and more specialized voices point out that he is also guilty of offering a boring fight, by not being able to box a slippery opponent.

“I tried to put on a great show, but to do that, you need both fighters,” Canelo Alvarez said in an interview with Fight Hub TV at the end of the fight and consoled himself with the phrase: “A win is a win,” although the feeling is that he was left with a debt that he will have to pay against Terence Crawford on September 12 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

One of the latest critics of Saul Alvarez‘ recent triumph is Jeff Mayweather, former trainer and uncle of Floyd Mayweather, who when asked if Scull was to blame for the disappointing fight, did not hesitate to say that the blame is shared.

“It’s partly his fault because in some of those rounds, Scull was winning,” Jeff Mayweather said during an interview broadcast on The Mayweather Channel via YouTube, where he felt that Scull did his fight and “it seemed that Canelo got so upset about fighting like that that he did nothing.”

Jeff Mayweather believes William Scull could have won

The defensive strategy of Willam Scull and the inability of Canelo Alvarez to cut off the escape routes in the ring led to a negative record being set as the fight with the fewest number of punches in 12 rounds, according to CompuBox, with 445, 152 by the Mexican and 293 by the Cuban, a mark that belonged to the duel between Joseph Parker and Deontay Wilder with 459 punches.

For Jeff Mayweather, Scull could have been chosen as the winner, because Alvarez did very little to deserve the victory, and according to his analysis, the judges respected his career.

“He probably could have won the fight because, I mean, Canelo didn’t do anything either,” Mayweather said, adding: “If Canelo wasn’t Canelo and it was two guys who were just on the rise, Scull probably would have won that fight.”
