It wasn’t too difficult for Floyd Mayweather Jr. to earn the “Money Mayweather” moniker. Throughout his illustrious boxing career, which ended with a stunning 50-0 record, Mayweather is estimated to have earned over $1 billion. And that’s just from his fights.
There were also sponsorships and other sources of revenue that made Mayweather a true financial force. Yet despite that, Mayweather’s current net worth sits at a much lower $50 million. That’s thanks to legal and financial issues that have sapped a ton of his financial gains. Those issues only seem to be getting worse, too.

On Friday, news surfaced that Mayweather is suing Jona Rechnitz, claiming that he basically defrauded the boxer over the course of their time working together. According to TMZ, Mayweather is alleging that Rechnitz, Ayal Frist and Alexander Seligson conspired in a “massive fraud operation“. Mayweather is suing for over $175 million.
There was one part of TMZ’s report that stood out like a sore thumb to fans, though. According to the lawsuit, Mayweather claims that “he unknowingly signed paperwork transferring ownership of his Gulfstream jet with the buyer section left blank… and says he still doesn’t know where the aircraft money went.“
Fans couldn’t believe what they were reading. In fact, they believe Mayweather’s infamous inability to read properly may have played a role in these issues.
- “Bro don’t drink or smoke he just organically stupid.”
- “50 Cent was right after all. Floyd can’t read.”
- “Reading is fundamental, but you have to know how to read. I don’t feel bad for him.”
Mayweather was also recently court ordered to pay $1 million plus $33,000 monthly payments to a stripper who he impregnated. For a person with “Money” as his moniker, he could certainly use some help with it.
