The Los Angeles Dodgers have just taken another decisive step toward securing a third consecutive championship. They have signed Edwin Diaz, formerly of the New York Mets, who now heads to the West Coast to inject considerable power into the dugout of the reigning champions.

Díaz arrived in the major leagues in 2016, playing for the Seattle Mariners organization. After three years on the West Coast, he relocated to the East Coast to play with the New York Mets for a six-year tenure.

Edwin Orlando Díaz, the pitcher’s full name, was born in Naguabo, Puerto Rico, on March 22, 1994. He has established himself as a reliable reliever who will now provide additional punch to the already potent arsenal the Dodgers possess.

His accomplishments include earning the All-MLB First Team designation in 2022. At 31 years old, he has successfully made a name for himself in the Major League, a reputation that now appears to have led him to play for the current MLB champions.

Díaz wears number 39 on his jersey, and it remains to be seen whether he will retain that number with his new franchise or opt for a new one to establish a completely different presence.

His nickname is “Sugar,” and his physical measurements are 6′ 3″ / 165 lbs.

Edwin Díaz’s Statistics

In the 2025 season, he compiled a 6-3 record with an Earned Run Average (ERA) of 1.30. His career MLB statistics show a 28-36 record with a cumulative ERA of 2.82.

Dodgers Roster Moves

Staying active in the market is vital for the Dodgers if they aim to repeat as champions in 2026. Consequently, the general management is making moves to evaluate which players will exit and which will join the team for the upcoming season.

According to reports, Dominican outfielder Teoscar Hernández is reportedly being placed on the trade market. This situation is notable because he has been a valuable contributor to the organization.

This potential move stems from a specific issue: while he remains a powerful offensive bat, his defensive production has significantly declined. According to one analytical metric, he is currently ranked as the 33rd out of 36 right fielders.

As the team continues to bolster its bullpen and simultaneously needs to free up salary cap space, Hernández appears to be a prime candidate to leave the franchise.
