Gervonta “Tank” Davis has never been one to avoid confrontation, inside or outside the ring. But now, fellow boxer Edgar Berlanga is shedding light on a behind-the-scenes incident that turned their casual acquaintance into a full-blown feud.
In a candid interview on the Mr. Jay Hill Network, Berlanga revealed that the drama all started during a night out at an adult club, where both fighters happened to be present.
According to Berlanga, he was invited to the venue by the owners and was informed that Davis would also be attending. When asked if they could be seated together, Berlanga agreed, not anticipating any issues. What followed, however, was far from cordial.
“Don’t touch me!”: Where it all went wrong
The tension reportedly began when Berlanga‘s father, who had seen Davis grow up through the amateur boxing circuit, approached Davis with a friendly greeting. “My pops was like, ‘yo, what’s up champ,'” Berlanga said. “He touched him on the shoulder and [Davis] just went crazy, like ‘don’t touch me!'”
Witnessing the outburst firsthand, Berlanga says he immediately lost his temper. “I just snapped,” he admitted. “We just started arguing back and forth… That’s where our beef started.”
The incident has lingered ever since, marking a personal rift between two men known for their aggression inside the ring. Berlanga, despite being a fan of Davis‘ knockout-heavy style, made it clear that the disrespect shown to his father was unforgivable.
Tension outside the ring, action inside it
While Berlanga continues to climb the super middleweight ranks, Davis remains a top name in the sport, recently coming off a controversial draw against Lamont Roach. A rematch between the two is expected, though no official date has been set.
As both fighters continue their respective paths, fans are left wondering: will this personal feud ever spill into the ring? One thing is clear-this rivalry didn’t start in a press conference. It started in a moment of real-world tension, and neither man seems ready to back down.
