Eagles prepare for life after A.J. Brown with bold draft prediction

The Philadelphia Eagles have quietly reshaped their wide receiver corps this offseason, adding a seasoned playmaker while lingering questions about AllPro wideout A.J. Brown‘s future swirl around the franchise.

While Brown remains under contract and is a highly productive wideout, the reality of today’s NFL is that no situation is ever completely secure.

On Tuesday, the Eagles agreed to terms with veteran wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown on a one-year deal reportedly worth up to $6.5 million, sources confirmed.

The 28-year-old arrives in Philadelphia after productive stints with the Baltimore Ravens, Arizona Cardinals, and Kansas City Chiefs. Last season with Kansas City, Brown caught 49 passes for 587 yards and five touchdowns in 16 games, rebounding from injury setbacks that limited him in 2024.

Marquise Brown‘s career numbers, 371 receptions, 4,322 yards, and 33 touchdowns across 90 games, bring experience to a receiving corps that lacked depth behind its top stars.

The move comes amid a backdrop of trade speculation surrounding A.J. Brown, who has been linked to several potential suitors this offseason.

Reports indicate that the Eagles engaged in “serious conversations” with both the Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots over a possible trade, though nothing has materialized yet.

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has publicly stated he wants to retain A.J. Brown, praising his elite ability, but head coach Nick Sirianni acknowledged earlier this year that nothing is guaranteed as the league year progresses.

Veteran presence could be key as Eagles navigate offseason shifts

Since arriving in Philadelphia, A.J. Brown has been a dominant force.

His physicality, ability to win contested catches, and knack for creating explosive plays have made him one of the most feared receivers in the league. Replacing that kind of production isn’t just difficult-it’s often unrealistic.

The Eagles aren’t necessarily trying to replace Brown immediately. Instead, they’re preparing for a scenario where they might have to.

Though Marquise Brown doesn’t replicate the exact skill set of A.J. Brown, who has tallied four consecutive 1,000-yard seasons since joining the Eagles, his speed, routerunning prowess, and bigplay ability give Philadelphia a versatile option in the passing game.

At Oklahoma, his college play earned him first-team All-American honors, and as a first-round pick in 2019, Brown has consistently shown the ability to stretch defenses vertically.

His one-year contract also reflects how the Eagles are balancing immediate production with financial flexibility; a short-term deal allows them to evaluate his fit alongside DeVonta Smith and the rest of the wideouts without long-term commitment.

As the team continues to build around its core, especially at quarterback and along both lines, the front office must carefully allocate resources. Drafting a young receiver on a rookie deal could provide significant flexibility.

Rumors have also pointed to a potential draft pick, Washington Huskies wide receiver Denzel Boston, in April.

Of course, none of this guarantees a trade, and it’s uncertain what the Eagles will do not only with A.J. Brown, but with the rest of their receiving corps as well. A.J. could very well remain a central piece of the offense for years to come.
