Draymond Green’s master plan to erase Memphis from the map

The NBA has announced that it is exploring options to add two new franchises to the competition. Reports suggest that the cities most likely to host these new teams are Las Vegas and the return of Seattle.

Although nothing has been finalized, these locations appear to be leading candidates to secure a team. With this in mind, some players have voiced their opinions on the matter, though in certain cases, their comments have focused on relocating an existing team from one city to another due to dissatisfaction with its current location.

Draymond Green wants to move the Grizzlies out of Memphis

Draymond Green sparked controversy with remarks suggesting that the Memphis Grizzlies should be relocated to Nashville, based on a particular situation he has experienced when traveling to play in that city.

However, his idea was quickly dismissed, and the so-called Music City made its stance clear regarding this “request,” if it can even be called that.

The Golden State Warriors player has expressed his dislike for playing in Memphis, stating that he would prefer the team be moved to Nashville, roughly 200 miles to the east.

Do everybody a favor and move that team to Nashville.”…”There’s no great hotels in Memphis. I love the people of Memphis. They are incredible. Shout out to the people of Memphis. I love them, but just from an NBA standpoint, man — there’s not a sauna or a hot tub in sight.

Draymond Green

TMZ interviewed Nashville mayor Freddie O’Connell, asking whether he had ever considered a possibility like the one suggested by the Warriors player, even in the most remote scenario.

I love Memphis and the Grizzlies.”…”They do training camps here, and we’d love to see them play a few games here, but our most recent bids have been for professional women’s teams.

Freddy O’Connell

Mayor O’Connell said.

Nashville is home to a wide range of professional and collegiate sports teams:

  • Titans
  • Predators
  • Nashville SC
  • Vanderbilt
  • Belmont
  • Tennessee State

Given the city’s substantial growth in recent years, it is expected to be considered as part of the NBA’s upcoming expansion plans currently under discussion.

Green may not enjoy traveling to Memphis to play, but his suggestion clearly failed to resonate.

On the contrary, it generated pushback and reaffirmed the strong identity and support surrounding the Grizzlies in their current home, where the franchise continues to maintain deep ties with its community despite outside criticism and relocation talk that, for now, remains purely speculative and without tangible momentum within league decision-making circles today
