When golf legend Tiger Woods and Vanessa Trump, ex-wife of Donald Trump Jr., went public with their unexpected romance in March, it left fans – and insiders – stunned. But behind the scenes, one key figure had already given his blessing: the president himself.
Sources close to the couple say Tiger personally reached out to Donald Sr. weeks before the relationship became public. The reason? Out of respect – and maybe a little anticipation of the headlines to come.
“I love Tiger and I love Vanessa,” Trump Sr. said in late March from the White House, finally addressing the relationship that had quickly become the talk of social media. “Tiger actually called me a few months ago. I have a very special relationship with Tiger. He’s a fantastic guy.”
While Tigerand Vanessa asked for privacy in a joint Instagram and X post celebrating their new romance – complete with sun-drenched selfies and a heartfelt caption: “Love is in the air, and life is better with you by my side!” – the couple’s link to two of America’s most recognizable families has made that all but impossible.
The exes are on board with the relationship
Vanessa and Don Jr. divorced years ago, but still co-parent five children together – including 17-year-old Kai, an emerging golf talent who recently competed at the prestigious Junior Invitational at Sage Valley alongside Charlie Woods, Tiger’s son.
Despite the unusual blending of public and private life, insiders say everyone’s playing it cool – including Don Jr., who, according to People, is “totally cool” with Vanessa’s new chapter.
Even Elin Nordegren, Tiger’s ex-wife and the mother of Sam and Charlie, appears to support the relationship from afar, with sources telling the Daily Mail that Tiger’s kids “like Vanessa,” and she “likes the kids.”
Don Jr. and Vanessa remain friends
Trump Sr. touched on the past, pointing to the pressure his son endured during the “Russia, Russia, Russia” investigations and how that may have impacted Don Jr.’s former marriage. Still, he insisted that his son and Vanessa “had a great relationship” and added, “They broke up quite a while ago, which to me was very sad.”
