Donald Trump urges NFL teams to hire John Harbaugh after his dismissal from the Ravens

The news landed like a bombshell on the afternoon of Tuesday, January 6, 2026. John Harbaugh was no longer the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens after 18 years with the organization, a tenure in which he delivered a championship and helped turn the team into one of the league’s most respected franchises.

All indications suggest that the relationship between the coach and the front office had deteriorated beyond repair. In addition, the issues that intensified during the 2025 season between Harbaugh and quarterback Lamar Jackson may have been the breaking point that ultimately led to their separation.

Now that he is no longer part of the organization, everything points to the idea that, should he choose to continue working without taking a break, he will not be short on opportunities. In fact, following his dismissal, it was reported that as many as seven teams had already contacted his agent to inquire about his immediate future and express interest in potentially hiring him.

John Harbaugh is the most desired coach in the NFL

Several franchises found themselves without a head coach, whether due to midseason firings or during the infamous Black Monday. That reality explains why, now that one of the NFL’s sharpest minds is available, teams could end up competing fiercely to secure his services.

Harbaugh has not publicly stated whether he plans to take time off, as many coaches do after being fired, to clear their minds for at least a year before returning with renewed energy.

However, someone who did speak up about why teams should hire him, even though Harbaugh does not truly need the promotion, was Donald Trump.

John Harbaugh’s numbers with the Baltimore Ravens

Over the course of nearly a lifetime in the league, John Harbaugh found a path to victory and glory with the Ravens. During his tenure, he captured six AFC North division titles and won a Super Bowl with Joe Flacco as his quarterback, achievements that solidified his legacy in Baltimore.

Their journey together came to an end following the painful loss to the Ravens’ most hated rival, the Pittsburgh Steelers, this past Sunday, January 4, in Week 18 of the 2025 season.

Despite Aaron Rodgers’ late comeback with 55 seconds remaining in the game, Baltimore and Lamar Jackson still had an opportunity to win. However, rookie kicker Tyler Loop missed the decisive kick, costing the team both the game and a berth in the postseason.

That moment appears to have been the final straw that sent John Harbaugh into professional limbo just days later.

HIRE JOHN HARBAUGH, FAST.”…”HE, AND HIS BROTHER, ARE TOTAL WINNERS!!!

Donald Trump

Trump wrote in a Truth Social post on Wednesday morning.

The Harbaughs met Trump during the summer of 2025, and when asked by a reporter about Trump’s previous comments regarding the city of Baltimore, John responded.

How you framed that question – I would have framed that question like: ‘You got a chance to go visit with the president, man. What was that experience like?'”…It was amazing. It was awesome. And I promise you I root for our president. I want our president to be successful just like I want my quarterback to be successful, and I want my team to be successful, and it was an amazing experience. It’s not often you get invited, and you get a chance to do something like that as a family.

John Harbaugh

Harbaugh said at the time, and added.

There’s a lot of gratitude there to be invited to the White House to meet the president with my family, my mom and dad. President Trump was just great to my mom and dad. That meant so much. My brother John; his daughter Allison; my two daughters, Addie and Katie; and my sister Joanie; and my niece Ainsley. So, there’s nine of us, and it was great.

John Harbaugh

The teams that could ultimately emerge as the winners in the race to hire Harbaugh are the Cleveland Browns and the New York Giants.
