Donald Trump has once again generated controversy after publicly expressing his rejection of the artists announced for Super Bowl 60, particularly Bad Bunny and Green Day, a stance that led him to confirm that he will not attend the event to be held on February 8 in Santa Clara, California.

I’m against them, I think it’s a terrible decision for them to participate

Donald Trump

In statements to The New York Post, Trump was blunt when referring to the choice of artists for the Super Bowl-related show. “I’m against them. I think it’s a terrible decision. All it does is sow hate. Terrible,” said the former president, making clear his discomfort with the presence of both musicians on the most-watched stage in American sports.

Trump also mentions the distance and logistics of the trip

In addition to the ideological disagreement, Trump explained that the location of the event also influenced his decision not to attend. Super Bowl 60 will be held on the West Coast, which he said represents a logistical complication.“It’s too far. I would. I’ve been given very good hands at the Super Bowl. They like me,” Trump said, alluding to the use of Air Force One. “I would go if, well, it was a little bit shorter,” he added, downplaying the issue, although his rejection of the artists seems to be the main factor.

Green Day and Bad Bunny maintain critical stances towards Trump

Both Green Day and Bad Bunny have been outspoken critics of the Trump administration at various times. In the case of the California band, their vocalist Billie Joe Armstrong has publicly expressed his opposition to the government’s immigration policies.

I’m not part of the MAGA agenda

“I am not part of the MAGA agenda,” Armstrong declared during a rally in Minnesota, reaffirming the group’s political stance. For his part, Bad Bunny has also shown his disagreement with Trump, even refusing to include dates in the United States on his tour as a sign of protest against his policies.

Tensions rose after the Trump administration threatened to send ICE agents to the Super Bowl, arguing that a large portion of the Puerto Rican artist’s followers are of Latino descent, prompting a strong reaction on social media.

The NFL backs Bad Bunny and keeps the show intact

Despite the controversy, the NFL has fully endorsed Bad Bunny. Commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed that there will be no changes to the Super Bowl-related show and highlighted the cultural importance of the artist.

“We’re sure it’s going to be a great show and that he understands the platform he’s on,” Goodell said on Oct. 22. “I think it’s going to be an exciting and united moment.”

This is for my people, for my culture and for my history

Bad Bunny, for his part, has pointed out that his participation represents a tribute to his culture. “This is for my people, my culture and our history,” he said after the official announcement.

Super Bowl 60 will be played on February 8 in California

Super Bowl 60 will be held on February 8 in Santa Clara, California, and although Trump’s absence adds a new chapter to the controversy, the NFL is sticking to its guns with a show that promises sporting, cultural and media impact.
