Los Angeles Dodgers took advantage of the coverage of Super Bowl LIX to announce through social networks the signing of Kike Hernandez for the 2025 season and to seek to validate their championship within Major League Baseball.

The first post was made by the player himself on his Instagram account: “Walking through the open door”, was the phrase published by the Puerto Rican where you can see his middle finger with the 2024 World Series Champions ring. Minutes later, the Los Angeles team’s account confirmed his return.

The story of Kike Hernandez in MLB

The story of the Dodgers and Hernandez, who has played both infield and outfield, has had pages of success after winning the MLB title in 2020 against the Tampa Bay Rays and later against the New York Yankees, both championships achieved with the California team.

Between 2021 and 2023, Hernandez had a stint with the Boston Red Sox franchise, before returning to the Dodgers in the middle of the 2023 season. He played with the Los Angeles team throughout 2024 to be an important pillar, especially on defense.

Last season, Hernandez had a .229 batting average, hit 12 home runs, 44 runs scored and 42 RBIs.

Both parties reached an agreement to continue their relationship for another year. This was news that was practically closed, but they took advantage of the Super Bowl spotlight to stay in the minds of the fans.

In the current offseason, the reigning MLB champions have been the most active with the arrival of big players such as Blake Snell, Tanner Scott, Roki Sasaki and Kirby Yates, and now Hernandez’s stay has been made official with the aim of validating their Major League title for the season that will begin on March 25.
