Distance matters a lot in this PGA: these are the 15 big hitters in the tournament and three are American

The Quail Hollow Club course, where the PGA Championship is being played, will surely be even longer than its 7,626 yards this week due to the heavy rains of recent days and those expected on Saturday. If there is one thing that all the players agree on, it is that the more distance from the tee you can achieve, the better you can do in the tournament. The skill around the green and putting will then decide, but the ‘whack’ will make a difference right from the start.

“I think you have to be super aggressive off the tee and then choose your entry points to the greens well,” says Rory McIlroy, who has won four times at Quail Hollow.

Scottie Scheffler explained: “On this course, because it’s so long, it’s a little bit easier to just step on the tee and pretty much every hole is to play with the driver. Beyond that, there’s not much strategy you can implement. I think going into the greens there will be a lot of strategy, especially as they solidify, based solely on which flags we can attack and where we’re supposed to miss.”

The biggest hitter of all, Bryson DeChambeau, is also clear: “You have to drive well. So far I’ve been doing well this season and hopefully it will continue. The greens are tricky. You have to have good irons too. You have to come with a complete set of clubs that you feel comfortable attacking the flags and with the strategy that allows you to move well around the course.”
