A year after the controversial fight in which Devin Haney lost to Ryan Garcia, only for a doping scandal involving his opponent to emerge, which led to the result being annulled and a one-year ban for KingRy. Now, ‘The Dream’ is preparing to return to the ring on May 2 to face Jose Ramirez in New York, as part of the Fatal Fury card

After a year full of controversies and cross-attacks with Ryan Garcia, Haney knows that he can use this narrative in his favor, inspired by Floyd Mayweather, according to Boxing Kingdom, to transform his personality into that of a ‘villain’, as ‘Money’ did in his time.

“Devin Haney believes he is about to become a big star after adopting his new ‘villain’ persona,” Boxing Kingdom published while following up on an interview with Haney in The Ring magazine.

In the conversation with The Ring, Devin Haney explained his plan to take the next step in boxing and become a star, inspired by the steps of Floyd Mayweather Jr.

“That’s when Floyd became the big star, when he became the villain,” Haney told The Ring and added: “I think the same thing. Then I’ll become a big star… People want to see me lose now. They want to pay to see me lose. So I’m happy.”

Devin Haney has been criticised because his father and manager Bill Haney has chosen his opponents, however, he believes that in terms of the plan to rise to stardom, he is ready to stop being the good guy and act with his true personality.

“I feel good being the villain. I was secretly the bad guy, but I acted like the good guy. Now I can come out of disguise and be myself,” said Devin Haney
