Deshaun Watson, during his vacation, sent a strong message to Shedeur Sanders, and the quarterback conflict continues

The Cleveland Browns now have a new head coach in Todd Monken, and the main goal is to put them back on the NFL competitive map, but above all, to fix the quarterback situation in the team, which has been a disaster and was one of the reasons why two-time Head Coach of the Year Kevin Stefanski was fired at the end of the season.

Only time will tell if the Browns, as has often been their history, made a mistake in letting Kevin Stefanski go, who was immediately hired by the Atlanta Falcons. Stefanski had more positives than negatives in Cleveland, but there is one mistake he will never forget: letting Baker Mayfield go to sign Deshaun Watson before the 2022 season.

The situation was that Mayfield had performed well with the Browns, even winning a playoff game, but after a difficult year (2021), he was not forgiven, and the team gave Deshaun Watson the biggest quarterback contract at the time: 5 years and $230 million, which turned out to be a real failure, and the team continues to pay the consequences.

Deshaun Watson is enjoying expensive vacations

Since signing that contract, Deshaun Watson, plagued by suspensions and injuries, has played only 19 games. He was never the spectacular player he was with the Houston Texans, and he hasn’t played a single game since Week 7 of 2024, when he tore his Achilles tendon and re-injured it during rehabilitation. That’s why he didn’t play at all in 2025.

For now, Watson is recovered and could play if Todd Monken wants him to. Meanwhile, the multimillionaire quarterback is enjoying luxurious vacations in Florence, Italy, sharing images that his wife posted on social media.

During Watson’s recovery, Mary Kay Cabot, a Cleveland Browns insider, revealed that the Clemson product would have a chance to compete for the starting role next season. However, at that time, Kevin Stefanski was still coach; now, we’ll have to wait to see Todd Monken’s plan, who is undoubtedly an offensive-minded coach.

Under contract are Deshaun Watson, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders. In Sanders’ case, everything revolves around the media-focused quarterback, who finished the season as the starter and whom Monken tried to draft to the Baltimore Ravens. Now it will be interesting to see if the plan centers around Deion Sanders’ son.
