De La Hoya wants nothing to do with Haney and calls for Ryan Garcia rematch against Rolly Romero

Ryan Garcia’s return was not as expected after serving his one-year suspension and returning to be defeated by Rolando Romero on May 2 at Times Square in New York. Although there are rumors of a possible rematch against Devin Haney, for his promoter Oscar de la Hoya, there is no interest in having KingRy step into the ring with ‘The Dream‘.

Golden Boy believes that the fight Ryan Garcia needs is a rematch against Rolly Romero, because he considered that Haney’s popularity is plummeting, whom he criticized for being evasive and described him as a ‘runner’.

For De La Hoya, a fight against Haney is not a priority because he considers that both need to shine, and Devin must show better boxing. However, we will have to wait for the strategy of Turki Alalshikh, who is likely to want to organize the rematch

“Devin lost by winning… His popularity has gone down a lot,” De la Hoya said in an interview with YouTube channel FigtHype about Haney‘s fight against Jose Ramirez and added: “He is said to be just a runner, not a boxer. This guy is a runner, why would I want to see that?”

Oscar De La Hoya advises rematch against Rolly Romero

The right thing for De La Hoya is for Ryan Garcia to immediately avenge his defeat to Romero, he said that is what he would do if he were still an active boxer and that is what he will recommend to his client: “So it would be the right thing for him. Seek revenge. So, he better do it.”

For his part, at least on the subject of facing Devin Haney again, Ryan Garcia told Fighthype that “that’s not the direction we want to go. Not at all,” and he finished with a sentence that leaves no room for doubt: “He doesn’t deserve a rematch.”
