Dave Roberts reveals plans for Shohei Ohtani

What all Dodgers fans were hoping for finally happened. Shohei Ohtani returned to the mound after being out for almost two years. The Japanese player had a serious injury and had to undergo surgery that kept him out for a long time, but with a great recovery, he was able to return even earlier than expected.

In his first appearance, Ohtani threw 29 pitches, including a 100.2 mph fastball, exceeding even the velocity expectations he had set for himself. Although the performance was not perfect and fans were left wanting more, Ohtani managed to regain the rhythm, the level and above all, the enthusiasm of thousands of fans who see him as the great figure of the Dodgers.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts wanted to call for calm and explained what Ohtani’s process will be like in an interview with True Blue LA. “Ohtani feels good, although somewhat tired. We plan for him to have another outing sometime this week, possibly Saturday, Sunday or Monday. There is no hard and fast rule to wait seven days between each pitch”.

“He’s going to pitch two innings, three innings or more, but the most important thing is that he’s back,” Roberts said.

The Dodgers explain that the plan is to bring Ohtani back slowly, possibly returning next week between June 21 and 23, probably in Washington, D.C., against the Nationals.

The importance of Shohei Ohtani for the Dodgers

Shohei Ohtani is a key figure for the Dodgers not only because of his talent as a pitcher, but also because of his ability as a hitter. His versatility and ability to impact both sides of the game make him a unique and valuable player for the team. After a long recovery, his return promises to strengthen the lineup and rotation that the team so desperately needs.

Ohtani’s figure is key both on and off the field, as after it was announced that he could be back, tickets to see the Dodgers increased in price and the excitement of the fans grows even more when the Japanese player is on the field.

A physical and mental job

Shohei Ohtani’s recovery goes beyond the physical; it also involves intense mental work to return to his best. After almost two years out of action due to injuries, Ohtani has had to face not only the rehabilitation of his arm, but also the pressure of returning to compete at the elite level of baseball.

The careful approach taken by the Dodgers, combining medical supervision with patience in their return pace, seeks to avoid relapses and ensure that Ohtani regains confidence in each pitch. The support of his team, fans and family will be key to ensuring that the recovery is both physical and mental.
