Dave Roberts drops hints on how he will use star pitcher Tyler Glasnow

Despite having pitched in relief in Game 1 of the Division Series against the Philadelphia Phillies, Tyler Glasnow is still projected as the starter for a potential Game 4. This was confirmed by manager Dave Roberts, who said that the right-hander would have enough rest to take on Thursday’s assignment, if necessary. His appearance Saturday was his first outing from the bullpen since 2018, but it did not change the coaching staff’s plans

In that outing, Glasnow pitched one and a third innings without allowing an earned run with two strikeouts, two walks and only one hit. He did so after resting during the Wild Card Series against Cincinnati, which allowed him to arrive in optimal physical condition. Roberts stressed that despite the unusual role, the plan is to keep him as an essential part of the starting rotation.

Tyler Glasnow in the postseason: Numbers, injuries and redemption with the Dodgers

Throughout his career, Glasnow has been a pitcher of contrasts in the playoffs. He has a 5.51 ERA and a 2-6 record in 11 postseason appearances, mostly with the Tampa Bay Rays. However, the talent is still there, as he has 106 strikeouts in just 47.1 innings. For the Dodgers, this could be the ideal opportunity for the right-hander to finally make his mark in October.

After a solid campaign in 2024 that was interrupted by injury, Glasnow returned in 2025 with 18 starts and a 3.19 ERA, plus 106 strikeouts. At 32 years of age, he looks to be fully recovered and ready to contribute to a team with legitimate title aspirations. His experience and repertoire could be crucial in what looks to be a close series.

Tyler Glasnow: an elite arm, multiple roles and a flexible strategy

With Game 2 just around the corner and the series still open, the Dodgers have shown a willingness to adapt their pieces and Glasnow is one of the most valuable. His versatility to start or pitch out of the bullpen adds depth to the pitching staff and allows Roberts to play with different combinations.

While Glasnow is penciled in as the starter for Game 4, his previous appearance shows that the team is not afraid to use him in key situations ahead of schedule. On Monday, October 6, the second game of the series will be played at Citizens Bank Park at 6:08 pm (ET).
