Daniel Dubois makes drastic decision after defeat by Oleksandr Usyk

Daniel Dubois is taking drastic steps to relaunch his career after his disappointing defeat to Oleksandr Usyk. In a significant move, Dubois has parted ways with trainer Don Charles and has hired Anthony Joshua’s former trainer Tony Sims to lead his new team.

The news comes in a time of change for Dubois, who was disappointed with his latest defeat and felt it was time to readjust things with his career and change certain aspects to reinvent himself in boxing.

A new beginning

Dubois’ decision to make a change of trainer is an attempt to regain momentum after being stopped in the fifth round by Usyk at Wembley Stadium. The reshuffle of his team also includes the departure of Charles’ assistant, Kieran Farrell, leaving Dubois with a completely new backroom team.

Although Charles was in Dubois’ corner during his most notable victories against Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic and Anthony Joshua, it seems that the boxer is looking for a new approach for his future in the division and that can give him new joys and triumphs.

A controversial party

Dubois’ defeat to Usyk was not the only controversy. In the hours leading up to the fight, Dubois’ father organized a party at the family home that attracted around 70 people. Despite criticism suggesting that the gathering could have affected the boxer’s preparation, Don Charles defended the event, claiming that it was a tradition that had worked in previous fights.

Charles told talkSPORT: “It wasn’t a party, it was a meeting,” explaining that they were looking to replicate the energy that had given them victory in that fight. However, Charles also clarified that he was not present and that his duty was limited to preparing the training team in the locker room.
