Dallas Cowboys look to keep momentum with George Pickens ready to play against Lions

The Dallas Cowboys are heading into Week 14 with momentum after a Thanksgiving Day victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.

The win has energized the team, and they’ve since turned their attention to a challenging NFC matchup against the Detroit Lions on Thursday Night Football. Even better news for Dallas: wide receiver George Pickens is off the injury report and expected to suit up for the game, giving the Cowboys a major boost in their passing attack.

Pickens had been dealing with a combination of calf and knee injuries that limited his practice time earlier in the week. However, he participated fully on Tuesday, signaling that he should be ready to contribute against the Lions.

His presence provides quarterback Dak Prescott and the Cowboys’ offense with a reliable target, enhancing the team’s chances to maintain their recent momentum. Pickens‘ return is especially timely given the team has excelled on offense in recent games.

However, injuries continue to impact other parts of the roster. Cornerback Trevon Diggs remains on injured reserve as he recovers from a concussion, and offensive lineman Tyler Guyton is also sidelined for the contest.

Their absences will test Dallas’ depth, particularly on the defensive side, as the team faces a Lions squad capable of scoring in bunches.

Schottenheimer’s warning: Focus on the present

With optimism is high, Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer is urging caution. He’s warning the team against looking too far ahead, emphasizing the importance of focusing on the present rather than becoming distracted by playoff scenarios or division races.

Schottenheimer stressed that success comes from preparation and executing game plans one step at a time.

“I’m not thinking about winning a division,” Schottenheimer said. “I’m thinking about having a great practice today, having great meetings this afternoon, cleaning up the things we’ve got to do, and then putting together a great third-down plan.”

With Pickens in the lineup and Schottenheimer‘s message resonating with the team, the Cowboys hope to maintain their winning momentum. Detroit, however, presents a formidable challenge, and any slip in focus could be costly.

Thursday night’s showdown promises to be an important test of Dallas’ recent return to form as the NFC playoff race tightens up in the final weeks of the season.
