Dallas Cowboys hint at Jadeveon Clowney’s future ahead of Giants clash

The final week of the NFL regular season often blurs the line between present urgency and future planning. In Dallas, that tension is unmistakable. As the Dallas Cowboys prepare to close out a difficult 2025 campaign, conversations around the team are drifting beyond the standings and toward what this roster might look like next year.

It has been a season marked by disruption. The late-August trade of Micah Parsons reshaped the defense overnight, and the recent release of Trevon Diggs only reinforced the sense of instability. Injuries, coaching uncertainty, and locker-room strain have followed. Yet through it all, Dallas has leaned on veterans to steady a group still searching for its identity.

Sunday’s matchup against the New York Giants may close the regular season, but it has also opened the door to bigger discussions. One name keeps surfacing as the Cowboys weigh their next steps: Jadeveon Clowney.

Why Clowney’s role suddenly feels bigger than 2025

Signed to a one-year deal after the Parsons trade, Clowney arrived with modest expectations and little long-term certainty. What followed was quiet efficiency. Despite appearing in just 12 games and starting five, he leads Dallas in sacks at 5.5 and sits second in tackles for loss, according to Pro Football Reference.

Those numbers matter, but they are not the main reason the Cowboys are talking about his future now. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer has been clear that Clowney’s impact extends well beyond game day. In recent comments, he highlighted the veteran’s influence on younger players, pointing to his preparation, competitiveness, and approach as standards the team needs.

That perspective has only gained weight during a season where motivation could easily fade. Schottenheimer stressed that Clowney plays every snap with purpose, regardless of the standings, a trait he views as essential for a roster still in transition.

The message is echoed upstairs. Owner Jerry Jones and COO Stephen Jones have both publicly expressed interest in keeping Clowney around. Speaking on KRLD-FM, Stephen Jones praised Clowney’s pressure rate and leadership, noting that his experience could be valuable with another defensive coordinator change likely on the horizon.

Clowney’s ability to adapt quickly to new systems could help offset the constant schematic turnover in Dallas.

Nothing is finalized, and the offseason remains unpredictable. Still, ahead of the Giants game, the Cowboys appear to be sending a deliberate signal. In a year defined by change, Jadeveon Clowney has offered something Dallas has lacked. Stability.
