Before becoming one of the most recognizable quarterbacks in the NFL, Dak Prescott faced challenges that went far beyond the football field.

During a pre-draft visit to Dallas while at Mississippi State, Prescott encountered blatant racial bias that left a lasting impression.

In a recent TikTok video shared by Sports on Prime, Prescott recounted a moment in the team’s training facility when a player reacted negatively to seeing a Black quarterback.

“I said, Dak Prescott, quarterback, Mississippi State, and he goes, ‘Black quarterback? we won’t have that,'” Prescott remembered.

The experience was not an isolated incident. Months later, after being drafted, Prescott said a club promoter repeated a similar sentiment, reinforcing the idea that his race could present additional hurdles.

These encounters helped Prescott understand the unique pressures he would face entering the NFL.

Family values shaped Prescott’s resilience

Prescott credits his mother and upbringing for preparing him to face such challenges with confidence.

“Those moments made me aware of what I would be up against,” he explained. “Race has never been something I allowed to define me, thanks to the guidance I received. My mom raised me with the mindset that, ‘That’s their problem, not mine.'”

Following his college career at Mississippi State, Prescott was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, quickly establishing himself as a cornerstone of the team.

Most recently, Prescott and the Cowboys‘ three-game winning streak came to an end in a 44-30 loss to the Detroit Lions.

The quarterback admitted to feeling sore after taking multiple hits but emphasized that he is ready to move forward. “I’ll be sore, but I am fine,” he said.

Prescott was pressured 22 times during the game, resulting in three sacks and four additional hits, highlighting the physical toll of his role.
