Cooper Kupp set to leave the Rams: ‘I don’t agree with the decision’

Cooper Kupp, the standout wide receiver who played a pivotal role in the Los Angeles Rams‘ 2021 Super Bowl victory, announced on social media that the team is actively working to trade him. The news comes as a surprise to fans and even some of his teammates, as Kupp has been a cornerstone of the Rams‘ offense since being drafted in 2017.

“I don’t agree with the decision and always believed it was going to begin and end in LA,” Kupp wrote. “Still, if there’s one thing that I have learned over the years: there are so many things that are out of your control, but it is how you respond to these things that you will look back on and remember.”

A shocking move for the Rams and their star receiver

The Rams are reportedly collaborating with Kupp and his family to find the right team where he can continue to compete for championships. Specific details about potential trade partners or timelines remain unclear, but the move signals a significant shift in the team’s strategy heading into the next season.

Kupp’s legacy in Los Angeles

Since being drafted in the third round out of Eastern Washington, Kupp has spent his entire eight-year NFL career with the Rams. His best season came in 2021, when he led the league with 1,947 receiving yards, 16 touchdowns, and 145 catches. That performance not only earned him the NFL’s Offensive Player of the Year award but also Super Bowl MVP honors after helping the Rams defeat the Cincinnati Bengals.

Despite battling injuries in recent seasons, Kupp remains a highly productive player. In the 2023 season, he recorded 710 receiving yards and six touchdowns on 67 catches. Although he didn’t score in the playoffs, he contributed 90 yards over two games as the Rams secured the NFC West title and advanced to the divisional round.

Kupp still has two years left on his three-year, $80 million contract, with $20 million owed next season. While his production has dipped since the Super Bowl run, he’s widely regarded as one of the most intelligent and reliable receivers in the league.

As speculation grows about where he’ll land next, one thing is certain: Cooper Kupp’s departure will mark the end of an era for the Rams, and the start of a new chapter for one of the NFL’s most dynamic playmakers.
