Rising tennis sensation Coco Gauff is set to return to action at the 2026 Miami Open, offering reassurance to fans despite a recent injury that had raised concerns about her fitness.

The 19-year-old American has been dealing with a minor issue that prompted discussions about a potential withdrawal, but she confirmed she is ready to compete while managing her condition carefully.

“For the most part, I will be fine playing this tournament. I might feel it sometimes on court, but I definitely feel it less and less every day. I think the goal was to play this tournament. There was a thought of maybe skipping it, but if it wasn’t Miami I probably would skip it, but the fact that it is Miami, I really wanted to be here,” Gauff said while speaking to reporters.

The Miami Open is a significant event on the WTA Tour, attracting top-ranked players from around the world.

For Gauff, who has already claimed multiple titles in her young career, the tournament represents both a competitive opportunity and a chance to continue building momentum ahead of the clay and grass seasons.

The American star’s commitment to playing despite her injury demonstrates her determination and professionalism, highlighting why she is considered one of the brightest talents in women’s tennis.

Injury details and Gauff’s cautious approach

The specific injury, which Gauff described in past interviews as a lingering concern, has been closely monitored by her medical team.

She recently underwent an MRI scan to assess the issue, an experience she described as unusually uncomfortable.

“That was the first time I took an MRI, they’re expensive, and I felt like that’s what a coffin would feel like. It was very weird. I felt claustrophobic, so I definitely don’t want to go into one of those again,” she explained.

Despite the anxiety-inducing scan, Gauff emphasized that her health is improving, noting that she feels stronger and more confident with each passing day.

Her careful management of the injury includes targeted physiotherapy, light on-court training, and monitoring her workload to avoid aggravation.

Sources close to her coaching team suggest that Gauff has been practicing with modified intensity to maintain her competitive edge while preventing any setbacks.

Fans of the American star can also take comfort in her mental resilience. Over the past few seasons, Gauff has proven that she can compete at the highest level even when facing physical or mental challenges.

Her ability to balance recovery with preparation will be critical during the Miami Open, where she is expected to face some of the WTA Tour’s top-ranked competitors in early-round matches.

The Miami Open marks a crucial stepping stone for Gauff as she looks to maintain her ranking and gather momentum ahead of the Grand Slam season.

Her decision to participate, despite the injury, highlights her commitment to her career, her competitive spirit, and her desire to perform on one of the sport’s biggest stages.

Fans will be watching closely to see if she can translate her determination into victories and continue her ascent in the world of professional tennis.
