Many did not believe this would happen. But at the end of the day both parties wanted it. In a significant move for the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team has reached an agreement with veteran pitcher Clayton Kershaw to extend his career with the franchise for the 2025 season. This new contract will mark Kershaw’s 18th season in the Majors with the Dodgers, solidifying his status as a lifelong member of the team.

The deal, pending a physical examination, is reported to be worth between $5 million and $10 million, with additional performance-based incentives. This contract reflects the Dodgers’ confidence in Kershaw’s abilities and their recognition of his enduring value to the team.

Clayton Kershaw, who will turn 37 in March, has been a cornerstone of the Dodgers’ pitching staff since his debut in 2008. Over his illustrious career, Kershaw has earned three Cy Young Awards, an MVP title, and nine All-Star selections. He has also been instrumental in the Dodgers’ multiple postseason runs, including their 2020 World Series championship.

A leader in the clubhouse

Despite facing multiple injuries in recent years, including surgeries on his shoulder and toe, Kershaw’s determination and commitment to the game remain unwavering. His return for the 2025 season is highly anticipated by fans, who eagerly await his pursuit of further milestones.

Kershaw is just 32 strikeouts away from reaching the illustrious 3,000-strikeout milestone, a feat achieved by only a select group of pitchers in MLB history. This milestone would further cement his legacy as one of the greatest pitchers of all time.

During the Dodgers’ World Series championship parade last year, Kershaw declared himself a “Dodger for life,” expressing his deep connection to the team and the city of Los Angeles. His new contract reaffirms his commitment to the Dodgers and his desire to continue contributing to their success.
