Carlos Mendoza receives one of the best Spring Training updates from Francisco Lindor

The New York Mets want to head into their 2026 season opener with as much help as possible. After an offseason where they sought to build a competitive team, they received bad news when Francisco Lindor had to undergo wrist surgery to address a hamate bone injury.

But now, things could shift in their favor, potentially allowing one of their best players to be available for Opening Day 2026.

Lindor could return earlier than planned

The Mets shortstop underwent surgery two weeks ago to repair a stress reaction in the hamate bone of his left wrist. Recently, manager Carlos Mendoza announced that Francisco Lindor is just days away from receiving medical clearance.

That means the five-time All-Star could soon resume “impact” activities, even though he hasn’t taken an at-bat or fielded ground balls since the procedure. Still, the Puerto Rican star has remained close to the team throughout Spring Training, fully focused on returning in time for MLB Opening Day.

Over the last two seasons, Lindor has been a cornerstone of the Mets lineup, playing 312 games while posting a .270/.345/.483 slash line, along with 64 home runs, 177 RBIs, 60 stolen bases, and 224 runs scored. His production has been essential to the team’s offensive identity.

Following the departures of Pete Alonso and Brandon Nimmo, the New York Mets roster will need Lindor healthy to maintain their offensive power. He will have support from key additions such as Bo Bichette, Marcus Semien, Luis Robert Jr., and Jorge Polanco, but Lindor remains the engine of this team.

The potential return of Francisco Lindor is major news for a fanbase hoping the Mets 2026 season doesn’t mirror the disappointment of 2025-and that this revamped roster can finally deliver in the postseason.
