The New York Mets have an ace pitcher up their sleeve for 2026, although everything will depend on his health if they want to get the most out of this MLB pitcher. We’re talking about Kodai Senga, who could be key to achieving the organization’s stated team goals.
Can the Mets’ ace return to MLB dominance in 2026?
The Mets believed they had found their ace in Senga, who posted a 1.47 ERA through his first 13 starts-the best mark in all of Major League Baseball that year. However, a hamstring strain forced him onto the injured list.
Once he returned, Senga was no longer the same dominant pitcher.
“He needs to be healthy. When he’s healthy, we know the type of pitcher he can be,” were Carlos Mendoza‘s words during this spring training, because it’s no secret that when he’s fully healthy, Kodai Senga is one of the best pitchers in MLB.
Upon his return, he posted a 6.56 ERA for the remainder of the season, leading the Mets to option him to Triple-A Syracuse. This winter, trade rumors surfaced about him possibly being moved, but in the end he remained in New York.
“These past two years have been frustrating and tough mentally. At some points, maybe I started to lose confidence. In this world, it’s either you do it or you don’t and I’m here to do it. That’s all there is,” Senga commented at the start of Spring Training 2026.
In 2026 he will have to prove his worth with the New York Mets, and the big question is whether this season he’ll manage to return to his best version-or whether this might mark the definitive beginning of the end for this MLB ace.
