Carlos Mendoza analyzes the problems the Mets are experiencing and his response will worry fans more

New York’s teams are going through a bad time, both the Yankees and the Mets, who have lost seven consecutive games after suffering a heavy defeat to the Phillies by a score of 10-2.

Even their manager, Carlos Mendoza, was blunt in recognising that the problems affect all aspects of the game: “I think it’s a little bit of everything. The starters aren’t going deep into games. Offensively, we’re struggling to score. Right now, we’re struggling in all areas,” Mendoza told a press conference.

The New York Mets had a promising start after rookie Blade Tidwell pitched three scoreless innings, giving hope to the Mets. However, the bullpen could not sustain the good start, as Reed Garrett allowed four runs without recording a single out in the eighth inning, and Justin Garza allowed two more. The offense also failed to respond, leaving Juan Soto hitless (0 for 2) and the team completely neutralized.

How are the New York Mets doing?

The statistics reflect the difficult moment. In this negative streak, the Mets have left 43 runners on base and have recorded just five hits in 44 at-bats with runners in scoring position. Despite isolated attempts, such as solo home runs by Pete Alonso and Jeff McNeil that briefly tied the game, the team has been unable to sustain the momentum.

In addition, the starting rotation, which at one time was a strong point, is also struggling, and names like Paul Blackburn, Griffin Canning and Tylor Megill have been inconsistent

Juan Soto’s record

However, it’s not all bad news for the Padres, as Juan Soto has reached 1,000 hits in his career during the first inning of Thursday’s game, becoming one of the few players to do so before turning 27. In addition, Soto has accumulated 830 walks, ranking among the best in terms of on-base appearances throughout history.

The urgency to reverse the situation is evident. Mendoza and his coaching staff are looking for solutions, but if the team does not find a collective response soon, the possibility of another series sweep is just around the corner.

After defeats against the Rays, Braves and Phillies, which already total seven, the Mets will desperately seek to reverse the situation in today’s game, June 21, against Philadelphia, with an inspired Juan Soto.
