Carlos Alcaraz falls into the trap of his debut in Miami

The debuts in tournaments are usually complicated. Carlos Alcaraz has often commented on this, and the one he had this year in the Miami Masters 1000 was another demonstration of this, because it was for him debut and farewell. Carlos Alcaraz lost to Belgian David Goffin 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 in two hours and 19 minutes in a match in which he was never comfortable and also met a serious opponent who was gaining confidence and although perhaps did not propose great things, what he did he did well.

Carlos Alcaraz, on the other hand, never seemed comfortable during the match. His forehand, his best weapon, never gave off good sensations. His proverbial creativity seemed stuck. He made more than 40 errors and only very sporadically managed points at his No. 1 level because streaks of play, very few

He was getting through the first and second set without doing great things although he managed to overcome the first dangerous situation, immediately recovering a break and then breaking to win the first set. But when Goffin managed to raise his level and get back in front he had no weapons to respond. The Belgian accelerated the game and he did not manage to change the pace of the match. The errors took away his continuity while his opponent took advantage of that speed that was indigestible for the Spaniard.

If in Indian Wells Carlos Alcaraz did not manage to retain the title but at least reached the semifinals, this time he has changed the quarter-finals of last year in Miami for a first-round defeat, so he will lose quite a few points. The sanctioned Sinner and Zverev will escape him in the fight for the number 1 ranking for quite a few months. Carlos Alcaraz now faces the clay-court tour, with a finish at Roland Garros, where he will once again defend his title.

Roberto Carballes was also defeated in the second round by Brandon Nakashima 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
